Short Film Competition - DEADLINE EXTENDED

Supported by the Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge

The Philadelphia Film Society is seeking submissions from area filmmakers for the 20th Anniversary Philadelphia Film Festival Short Film Competition. The top ten winners, including the Grand Prize Winner, will receive an All-Access Badge and have their film screened during the Film Festival (Oct 20 - Nov 3, 2011).

All valid submissions will be voted on by our online community, and the top ten films will be judged by the Artistic Staff of the Philadelphia Film Society. All applicants are encouraged to submit their work following the official contest rules and requirements listed below.

The Grand Prize Winner will be announced at the 20th Anniversary Philadelphia Film Festival. He/she will receive an award as well as ONE ROUND-TRIP TICKET TO ANYWHERE THAT SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLIES, courtesy of our Festival sponsor, Southwest Airlines!

Entry Procedures
Entries may be submitted, with a completed application form, between now until SEPTEMBER 30th, 2011 at 5pm to the following address:

We are unable to return submissions under any circumstances. Please retain a copy for yourself.

Competition Rules & Requirements
Film content must coincide with the theme of the competition and include one of the 20 iconic Philadelphia landmarks, characters or objects below:

  2. Liberty Bell
  3. Independence Hall
  4. Water Ice
  5. LOVE Park
  6. Historic figures - William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Edgar Allen Poe, etc
  7. Ben Franklin Bridge
  8. City Hall
  9. Boat House Row
  10. Eastern State Penitentiary
  11. Comcast Center
  12. Philadelphia Art Museum
  13. Soft Pretzels
  14. Cheesesteaks
  15. Mummers
  16. Philadelphia Sports Teams – Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and/or 76ers
  17. Italian Market
  18. Philadelphia Zoo
  19. Rittenhouse Square
  20. National Constitution Center

The Fine Print: All submissions must be 30 minutes in length or less. All submissions must be the original work of the applicants. Neither the competition nor its jurists investigates or attests to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights. The use of any trademarks will disqualify your video. Do not use any copyrighted material. Copyrighted material includes but is not limited to film clips, television clips, audio clips, video game clips, books, magazines, etc. Applicants must accept, without reservation, the decisions rendered by the contest jurors as all decisions are final. No substitutions or corrections may be made after the trailer has been submitted. Submissions must also include a completed Application Form (see attachment below) with all relevant release forms, or it will not be considered.
